During a round-table discussion involving patients with breast cancer, I realized that patients — and others without training in health-related sciences — have a deep desire and need to understand what the results of scientific research mean for them. <\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, research results are\u00a0often communicated in a language that is understood only by other scientists in that specific field.<\/span><\/p>\n

This also means that many research results are not\u00a0being communicated effectively to other scientists and funding organizations, either, leaving critical research unrecognized and unfunded.<\/span><\/p>\n

How can I help bridge the communication gaps?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve been in your shoes<\/em>.\u00a0My doctoral dissertation research focused on elucidating\u00a0the\u00a0molecular functions\u00a0of the brain protein centaurin alpha.\u00a0My postdoctoral research focused on\u00a0designing and investigating the\u00a0immunotherapeutic potential\u00a0of retargeted adenovirus-based vectors for treating\u00a0breast cancer\u00a0and melanoma. So, I have scientific experience in a range of fields<\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Perhaps most importantly,\u00a0I can communicate the details of biological research effectively to a variety of audiences.\u00a0During my time at the bench, I published several first-author manuscripts and won numerous awards for poster and oral presentations\u00a0given to\u00a0scientific and\u00a0general audiences.\u00a0My experience as an adjunct college professor and professional editor has sharpened my communication skills as well.\u00a0So, I can make sure\u00a0your\u00a0target audience understands the research.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
